The application of CMC in surface sizing results in reduced paper surface porosity and improved resistance to liquid absorption, improved paper brightness and gloss, increased paper stiffness and smoothness, reduced susceptibility to deformation, increased paper surface pick resistance, enhanced printing properties and reduced dusting tendency. When dosed internally, it improves strength properties of the paper.
CMC allows for efficient and expeditious enhancement of paper and board dry strength mechanics. In addition, it is sometimes utilised in the production of special papers with very high wet strength of 35-45%. It is also easy to dose into the hydropulper.
